Simulating Diurnal Variations of Water Temperature and Dissolved Oxygen in Shallow Minnesota Lakes

نویسندگان

چکیده

In shallow lakes, water quality is mostly affected by weather conditions and some ecological processes which vary throughout the day. To understand model diurnal-nocturnal variations, a deterministic, one-dimensional hourly lake MINLAKE2018 was modified from daily MINLAKE2012, applied to five lakes in Minnesota simulate temperature dissolved oxygen (DO) over multiple years. A maximum diurnal variation of 11.40 °C DO 5.63 mg/L were simulated. The root-mean-square errors (RMSEs) simulated surface temperatures range 1.19 1.95 when compared with data 4–8 RMSEs simulations decreased 17.3% 18.2%, respectively, Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency increased 10.3% 66.7%, respectively; indicating performs better comparison MINLAKE2012. uses variable wind speeds determine turbulent diffusion coefficient epilimnion produces more hours stratification including that lasted several on days. includes direct solar radiation heating bottom sediment decreases magnitude heat flux or sediment.

Diurnal temperature fluctuations in an artificial small shallow water body

For aquatic biological processes, diurnal and annual cycles of water temperature are very important to plants as well as to animals and microbes living in the water. An existing one-dimensional model has been extended to simulate the temperature profile within a small water body. A year-round outdoor experiment has been conducted to estimate the model input parameters and to verify the model. B...

A simplified model to predict diurnal water temperature dynamics in a shallow tropical water pool.

Water temperature is a critical regulator in the growth and development of malaria mosquito immatures, as they are poikilothermic. Measuring or estimating the diurnal temperature ranges to which these immatures are exposed is of the utmost importance, as these immatures will develop into adults that can transmit malaria. Recent attempts to predict the daily water temperature dynamics in mosquit...

The Effect of Pollutants Dissolved Oxygen and Temperature Change (Case Study:Ghezel-Ozen River)

Rivers can absorb certain amounts of contamination relying on different factors such as: river discharge, the primary conditions of the river, the river depth, discharge and the river viscosity of the offloaded wastes in the river. From parameters of water quality point of view, it is recom-mended to determine some parts of the river which are lower than the standard level in order to find out ...
